Top Considerations When Choosing a Wedding Photographer

When my awesome bride Sophie contacted me as a referral from a previous wedding I shot with a friend of hers, I was beyond ecstatic to capture her and Ben's special day. Their energy is enriched with contagious joy and love that can make your jaw hurt from smiling. But being welcomed to their big event wasn't all that I was excited about. In fact, Sophie and Ben had a special connection with the venue they selected beyond anything I could ever expect.

Tapestry Hall, located in the scenic city of Cambridge Ontario, was the desired location of Sophie and Ben's wedding day. The hall is well known for their magical artistic display stretched along the ceiling called "Meander" - and it is said to be the largest living architectural sculpture in the world. But who would've known that one of the leading engineers to help bring renowned artist Philip Beesely's art to life then Sophie! My amazing bride was a part of the team who enabled such a masterpiece for visitors to pass under a sculpture that moves, lights up and makes sounds as it reacts to people passing below. It also reacts to temperature changes and casts an array of sparkling lights with those changes. The glee in all of our faces during this revelation was enough to make the day even more exciting!

The day consisted of a heartwarming bridal dress reveal with friends, laughing in the rain with the groom's party, a peaceful Lutheran church ceremony, family portraits with bubbles, a wild and whacky wedding party photoshoot, sandwiches and waffles for dinner, and a boisterous Irish folk dance featuring most of the guests. It was a night to remember for a couple who left their footprint forever on Tapestry Hall's beautiful architecture forever.

The space is big and beautiful, an expansive canvas for me as a photographer to paint my clients' love stories on. The way the sprawling area can comfortably accommodate over 400 guests without feeling overwhelming is nothing short of architectural brilliance.

One feature that particularly catches my eye is the striking contrast between the dark walls and the golden lighting. This combination creates an atmosphere that's both warm and intimate, the perfect backdrop for timeless wedding photos.

The beautiful architecture setup on the ceiling is a feast for the eyes. Shooting under this magnificent ceiling, I am able to create pictures that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also full of character and depth.

My Bride Was Part of The Tapestry Hall Installation, Cambridge Ontario

Say there is a dream dress you would love to wear on your wedding day, but you also want to respect traditional cultural attire. Who says you can&rsquo;t have both? Leyuan and Charlie did, and so much fun was had during their elegant Chinese wedding in Guelph Arboretum! Or rather, a pre-wedding you can say 😉

Leyuan always wanted an excuse to feel like a princess. She found a stunning gown online and just had to take the opportunity to run and dance with the light, billowing fabric. With the help of a friend, her partner Charlie, and their beloved dog Cooper, we set out on a journey to the beautiful sunlit green of The Arboretum in Guelph, surrounded by tall trees, lush hedges, and clear skies that shined throughout.

Guelph Arboretum provided the perfect backdrop for this elegant Chinese wedding shoot. During this stylized session, Leyuan and Charlie were able to have the freedom to be themselves without the family pressures on their official day. We ran, we danced, we jumped, we lay, and we laughed, and had a great time. The Arboretum in Guelph has always been a favourite space of mine to shoot portraits, and I always encourage future couples to come explore the beautiful green space with me sometime. 🙂
